Artist

statement

I was born in 1968 in Lod, a city of multiculturalism expressed in various smells, tastes, sounds, and colours. In 1980 I moved to Rehovot, a city of art, culture and science. As I was learning to stand for the unification and difference between people, my attraction to exploring different cultures and how place, time of birth, and one’s education affect them in their adult life grew. My openness to learn from every person and any culture is a great virtue and a privilege I have, and that affects me and my art.
At the beginning of my artistic path, I examined the connection between all humans through an architectural symbol of a gate that was transitioned from the everyday world to a world of holiness, prayer and learning. Thereafter, I explored Buddhism, the final Sufi, Christianity, Taoism, Shinto and Judaism. Over the years, I continue to deepen my knowledge in various theosophical and philosophical conceptions. I explore the fusion of physical and spiritual worlds in everyday life through my works. I choose to engage in art as a way of life alongside starting a family and raising two daughters. I create sculptures that range from the abstract to the concrete image, using different materials selected according to the work’s main theme; For example, wings carved in hard stone or a vulture bird that I created from iron. In these examples, I decided to work with rigid and heavy materials to express spiritual ideas seeking to stretch the boundaries of the material and test its ability to embody the spiritual idea underlying it. In recent years I have been exploring the limits of my daring to follow my heart. I do this out of a belief that we are the only ones who limit ourselves, our spiritual and physical development.
